With freshness and wisdom, Kay's poetic voyage invites readers to embark on a soul-stirring journey of self-discovery and exploration of the world around her. No Matter The Wreckage is a collection of poetry with the themes of love as well as random things out of the blue, including travel, cities and our surroundings. When the weight gives, and all that extra rope comes hurtling towards you, how even though you've won, you still end up with muddy knees and burns on your hands? I loved how her poems touched not only love, but awareness, longing, giving importance to other people, putting someone else's happiness before her own and how she made each poem entirely different from another. I highly think the connection between us is palpable, her words connect to me with too much precision.

Poems as such, you would doubt, might not have translated well into written form, but it does so perfectly in a different perspective. Common experiences which we sometimes fail to take notice of just because we are clouded by the white noise around us. She is unafraid to bring you into her world, and bares her soul for the world to see, and that it is alright to be imperfect. Plus, for the first time in what seems like forever, Sarah Kay's words have inspired me to start writing again. Most importantly, the poems themselves are beautifully written, capturing a spectrum of ideas and topics in a really touching, personal fashion. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Kay holds a Masters Degree in The Art of Teaching from Brown University and an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from Grinnell College. If you've ever seen a performance by Sarah Kay you probably realized how much she puts in her poetry.

Since No Matter the Wreckage includes poetry from a span of ten years of my life, it was inevitable that at some point my family would be included, since there were plenty of times in that decade when I was navigating family dynamics and history. An alum of Brown University Graduate School’s Masters Program in the Art of Teaching Secondary English. I guess right now the poem I am thinking about the most is the poem Ghost Ship, a line from which inspired the title for this collection. After a long awaited compilation of 10 years, Sarah Kay finally publishes her collection of poems which can only be described as brutally raw, naked, and hopeful. If you have not seen Sarah Kay perform any of her poems, check her out on YouTube, she's a great performer). One aspect that really took my breath away was Kay’s ability to render ideas of her own into intricate details with the significance still intact. Building on the triumph of her acclaimed poem, "B," Sarah Kay unveils her debut poetry collection, a compilation of pieces spanning her first decade as a poet. For some I imagine reading the poetry will not compare to watching her present, but I think that that is a limitation of the medium, more than a complaint about the book. Sarah Kay, a graduate of Brown University, was born in New York to a Japanese American mother and a Jewish American father.
