Robin started out as the polar opposite of Batman to give contrast in a real world sense and to provide the Dark Knight with a colorful distraction to his foes in an in-world sense, but as he evolved he became the most capable team leader in the DC Universe (whereas the Justice League has never had a set leader, Dick Grayson is the Captain America or Cyclops of the Titans) and the hero everybody will rally around in a time of crisis (a plot point Geoff Johns made during Infinite Crisis that I really loved). The story is also narrated by Dick Grayson, as if he's talking to Batman, giving us key insight on his understanding of the Dark Knight's way of life, himself, and how the world around him works. This origin story also plants a few tasty seeds for readers to follow in other books: the Barbara/Grayson dynamic, Nightwing/Blüdhaven, and Jason Todd, which later leads into another major storyline that I won't spoil here. The story starts with the break between Batman and his sidekick, a result of Robin's conflicting responsibilities: to college; his supergroup, the Teen Titans; and Batman himself.

He also wrote many issues of Catwoman and Green Arrow , regularly having about seven titles out each and every month between the years 1993 and 1998. Watch Dick Grayson forge his path from Robin to Nightwing even as he himself wrestles with the larger question of "Who is Dick Grayson without Robin? As if he had never left the character he helped to give such depth, Dixon gets right back in the swing of mixing the pathos of Dick Grayson in with the somersaults of Robin and provides a timeless yarn about growing up with a super-heroic edge.Luckily, outside of the comics we also had Batman: The Animated Series and when the show moved from Fox to Kids WB, Nightwing was added to the mix. Nightwing: Year One is a storyline written by Chuck Dixon and Scott Beatty, with art by Scott McDaniel.

This is the first story for me where Dick has been the main focus of the story and I really enjoyed it, I definitely like him as a character and it was good to get a crash course of his world which is what this good kind of does. I enjoy the use of color in the adventures, too — it’s bright overall, but still has that darkness since it is Bat-family book. So it does come as a surprise when it is learned that there was a long period of time between Dick Grayson becoming Nightwing, and when he would finally graduate to a title of his own.Anyways, I love the way Superman treats Dick Grayson as an equal even here, love the way Dick kinda hits on Lois Lane, and love about a zillion other things about those two characters teaming; just a great dynamic.
